I am Nicole Kontolefa. I was born and raised in NYC and graduated with the American Class at The Moscow Art Theater School. I am a founding member and managing director of Studio Six Theater Company - the sixth and only American studio to be born out of the Moscow Art Theater School.
This performance is very much a product of my education in the Russian theater as well as the desire to perform outside of it's bounds. It was inspired by games, the structure of theatrical conventions and ensembles and the quest for organic experience.
I Am Me was a part of The Golden Mask' Festival's "New Plays" Program in Moscow March 2014.
My performance won the Grand Prize at the 2014 Kolyada Plays Festival in Yekaterinburg in June.
In October of 2015, I Am Me was invited to University of Wisconsin - Madison. Students in the Russian Immersion program partook in the Russian performance while Theater/Theater in Education students saw the English version. Following the performance there was a talk back and workshop for the theater students. See Educational Component for more information on workshops.
